WebWendy’s Home

I had a friend who wanted to make room in her mother’s apartment. She and her sister went into the house and basically just threw every thing out. As an eBayer, this made me cringe…. Boxes of books, old clothing, glasses - even old slides…. could have found a home and been recycled instead of going into a landfill.

If I had known, I would have intervened, but alas, I was told after the fact.

If you find that you have to get rid of tons of stuff - at least first find out if you can get some money for your items!!!

Did you know old slides can sell for a lot of $$$$? You never know if you have a first edition book or a signed book if you don’t look! Did you know children’s books can fetch quite a penny?

Once in a while people come across what we call a home run. A home run is when an eBay seller puts up an auction and hope they get their 5.00 bucks back. When they look -it item is going sky high! This happened recently with a starbucks coffee mug someone bought for $2.99 at a yard sale. It ended up selling for over 2,000!

Now, don’t ask me who would spend that kind of money on a cup - even for a limited edition pulled of the shelves for over some legal issue…. but it happens.

How can you know if you might have a home run you were about to throw out?

Check it out! You can search on eBay (completed items) and see if anything like the item you had sold, and for how much. You can use advanced tools like terapeak and really learn how to discover how to sell like the pros!

When I discovered eBay in 1997, I was working as a corporate computer trainer and troubleshooter. I was thrilled to find eBay, then a small auction site with a few categories.

I soon discovered I could find treasures I used to travel far and wide to find from my home computer. Like many people who start out buying, one day (after a year) it hit me… “Hey, if other people are selling on eBay, why I can’t I?”

I started selling on eBay in 1998 during the beanie baby boom. I’ve watched with amazement at how this once obscure Internet site has grown into the giant company it is today.

Prior to eBay University, I wrote three courses on eBay and conducted online classes for an Internet distance learning school. I’ve also worked with businesses and achieved PowerSeller status for them.

Today, I teach classes on eBay, basic computers, Internet skills. I also consult with businesses on getting their brick and mortar stores online. I have designed and implemented the concepts for many Web sites. I am also the Webmaster for several sites. My sites include Susan Goldy, Inc., The Amalgamated-Bronx Co-op, The NYC Chapter of the Sierra Club and The-Savvy_Seller.com.
